Moteurs Baudouin have produced engines in France since 1918 serving both the marine and industrial markets. Their products have been well accepted for marine use from the start and are distinguished by their genuine marine design offering quality, adaptability and reliability. The production facility in Cassis, France has Bureau Veritas ISO 9001 certification and their marine products have type approvals from most major marine classifications societies. Motors Baudouin have a global presence in over 70 countries worldwide. They have developed advanced emissions technology and can offer IMO III and EPA IV on some of their larger models.

Our Baudouin powered marine generating sets are offered in varying kVA that are heat exchanger cooled as standard, keel and radiator cooling is available as an alternative. We offer a large menu of ancillary equipment and accessories that you may tailor to suit your individual bespoke needs. Once you have ordered your open framed or acoustically enclosed generating set it is individually built to order and too classification standard if it is required. The generators driven by the Baudouin engines are as standard Newage Stamford but others options are available please refer to Generating Set Alternator Options.

Generating Set Overview

Marine generating set with a continuous rated “Prime” power output, 3 phase at 0.8p.f with the capability for a 10% overload in accordance with ISO standard 3046. Designed, built and tested by Beta Marine Limited each set comprising of;

  • A Baudouin marine specification auxiliary diesel engine rated for continuous operation also in accordance with ISO 3046.
  • Heat exchanger cooled with fresh and seawater pumps, water cooled exhaust manifold with a dry exhaust stub and flexible bellows.
  • Air filter, lubricating oil filter, duplex change over fuel oil filters and lubricating oil sump drain pump.
  • Class type approved flame retardant flexible fuel connections and double skinned (sheathed) fuel injector pipes with collecting manifold and switch for an alarm – SOLAS compliant.
  • Electronic speed governor to control engine speed to the requirements of ISO 3046 for a diesel generating set.
  • 24 volt electric start system with stop solenoid valve and marine rated insulated return.
  • Classification society approved master control panel for remote engine room installation, supplied loose with 3m of connection loom. The panel has manual start and stop push buttons, audible alarm and monochrome display. The engine is monitored with parameters set for both an audible alarm warning for the first parameter and engine shutdown for the second parameter. Engine lubrication oil pressure, oil temperature, fresh water temperature, engine coolant level, engine over-speed and injection pipe fuel leakage are all monitored.
  • Optional panel equipment available includes a remote alarm display unit, additional exhaust gas temperature and intake air pressure monitoring and ship management communication interface (canbus J1939*).
  • Newage Stamford alternators are rated to ISO 8528-3. They are 4 pole, brushless, self-ventilated with IP 23 protection, single or twin bearing construction depending on rating. The alternator is self-regulating and self-excited and is complete with terminal box and automatic voltage regulator. Alternators are selected to give marine ratings for class ‘F’ temperature rises in marine ambient engine room temperatures of 45ºC. Alternator sizes may alter to meet the specified required voltage/frequency.
  • The engine and alternator are close coupled together and mounted on a combined welded steel base plate.
  • Marine failsafe anti-vibration mountings are installed as standard to isolate the generating set base plate from the ships seating.
  • Paint – These generating sets are finished in Baudouin blue as standard but can be finished in colour of choice.
  • Each generating set is “full load” tested in accordance with our quality document QA001. On turbocharged engines load acceptance is limited in accordance with ISO 3046.

Bespoke Acoustic Enclosures

Available for Heat Exchanger, Keel or Radiator Cooled Generating Sets.

Bespoke enclosures are manufactured from ‘Zintec’ steel and finished in off white ‘powder coated’ paint to complement the generating set colour. The panel frame is bolted together for rigidity and strength. It is lined with high quality 38mm flame retardant acoustic foam material (including a 4mm polymeric barrier), held in place with high temperature silicon adhesive. Complete with full tray base frame, drain plug and lifting lugs.

Quick release “service” panels facilitate easy, simple and unobstructed access to the engine, AC alternator and ancillaries. Acoustic attenuating ducts provide air flow in and out of enclosure forced by an electric ventilation fan which is powered direct from the AC alternator terminals. Blank gland plates are provided for electrical connections.

Cooling Options

Classification

If a vessel is “classified” and the class notation calls for the marine generating set to be “in class” then unless there is an exception allowed for by the relevant class rules, the complete generating set will be subject to the relevant classification society rules.

Once built to the relevant classification society rules, the complete engine, alternator and all its ancillaries will need to be fully surveyed and witness tested at the factory by the classification society surveyor/s. Upon completion, full class certificates will be issued specific to each generating set.

The requirements vary between classification societies and the relevant society surveyor should be consulted prior to ordering to ensure the generating set customer/vessel specification is acceptable for the class.

The benefit of this process is the generating set has been proven and is compliant before being shipped and received on board.

Classification Society compliance and certification is a chargeable extra and will allowed for in your bespoke generating set quotation.

Note: Please note that not all engines are available with ‘type’ approval and some engine manufacturers do not offer or allow their engines to be surveyed and witness tested by class society surveyors in their factory.

Certification Options

IMO & EIAPP Certification

For IMO and EIAPP compliance please refer to 50Hz or 60Hz specification data tabs.

Classification Options

Beta Marine can manufacture marine generating sets with or without Classification Society requirements, including but not limited to the Societies listed below. For more information please refer to the IACS Guide to Classification.

Output Options

The following illustration below depicts two main generating sets and one stand by generating set which can be arranged in multiple configurations to suit the vessels application requirements.

Auto Stand By

In this application each generating set is sized to carry the full electrical load of the vessel. Each generating is arranged for automatic stand by to each other with their outputs controlled through a change over contactor. Failure of the selected running generator set would automatically initiate the starting of the second generating set which when running, would take over the electrical load.

The electrical load black out would be milliseconds should the change over be controlled by a pre-alarm on the running generating set or initiated by the operator.

In this application the use of a stand by emergency / essential services set may be obviated. However, if the machinery has to built to classification, the relevant classification society rules will dictate the final requirement that will need to be met.

Auto Stand By With Parallel Operation

In this application the arrangement is the same as Auto Stand By (above) but the change over contactor is replaced by independent contactors or motorised circuit breakers. In the event of sudden failure of the running generator set the operation procedure would also be the same as Auto Stand By. However, under controlled shutdown of the running generator the second generating set could be run up either manually or automatically and paralleled with the with the outgoing generating set enabling a smooth take over of the load before the outgoing set is shut down.

Full Parallel Operation

In this application both generating sets power the load either continuously or dependent upon demand, the arrangement can be manually or automatically operated. It is common for the vessels switchboard to incorporate a load shedding arrangement so that in the event of a failure of one of the main generating sets that all essential services loads would be maintained by the other generating set.

In this arrangement the installation of an emergency / essential services generating is set is recommended.

Bespoke Arrangements

The above options can be modified and adjusted for bespoke vessel operational needs. There may be more or less generating sets (than depicted above) to suit these needs with bespoke control, appropriate for the final arrangement.

Many requirements are dictated by any relevant classification society class rules which are set to ensure the safety of both the crew and the vessel. These rules will embody SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) as issued by the IMO (International Maritime Organisation).

Generating Set Overview

Generating Set Overview

Marine generating set with a continuous rated “Prime” power output, 3 phase at 0.8p.f with the capability for a 10% overload in accordance with ISO standard 3046. Designed, built and tested by Beta Marine Limited each set comprising of;

Classification & Certification Options
